1987 - 1988

September 1

A new school year and new staff. Mrs Walker joined us again as a full time teacher. Mrs Stewart came as our new V.P.

Clubs and societies are started. We now have Dance, Football, Swimming, Netball, Hockey, Badminton in the afternoon. Mrs Stewart is starting a choir.

September 8 (Tuesday)

The P.A. held a “get together” for parents. Many came for Punch and Paté and a fund for a new computer was launched.

Our photocopier has arrived.

October 1

P7 held a Pets’ Service in Assembly.

Orangefield Orchestra visited our school.

P7 went to the Arts Theatre to see the ‘Think of a Number Road Show’ with Johnny Ball. Ciaran Martin was asked to operate a calculator wearing boxing gloves!

November 14 (Saturday)

Ulster Finals : Minor Swimming Championships

Olderfleet wins 7 a side League. We kept the cup for a second year.

This year’s charity was the N.I. Hospice. We collected £1300. Simon Bell and William Martin handed over the cheque.

Belfast Actors’ Co-op came a presented “Maxwell’s Christmas.”

P.S. We all signed a ‘Good Luck’ card for Mr Burns.

During the Christmas holidays Mr Burns left to spend 7 months on an exchange visit to Canada.

Parents’ Association. Guest speakers Bob & Barbara Morrison. Excellent attendance despite gale force winds! More funds towards new computer!

Olderfleet Parents’ Association held a jumble sale in Town Hall. Well over £100 raised!

3 P7 boys on trial for East Antrim team: Adrian Allen, James McIlroy, Ciaran Martin.

R.U.C. Top of the Form Quiz. Rachel Murray represented P6, Simon Scott P7. Well done both team members.

A new look for Olderfleet Primary School.

P7, P6, P3, the corridor and foyer all newly painted. A new blue floor for the foyer and corridor and matching blue paintwork. Fresh and clean for spring!

The Easter holidays have arrived. James and Ciaran are off to Jordanstown for the Northern Ireland Inter-District Football Tournament – Tuesday 29th, Wednesday 30th, Thursday 31st March.

The Morrisons are off to Scotland and Mr Burns to New York City.

P2 outing to Whitehead by train. A good day was had by all.

P 6 & P7 went on a day trip to Ayr and returned worn out but happy!

P1, 2 & 3 off to Greenmount for the day.

Olderfleet played 3 maches : drew 1, won 2. Played Linn P.S. in the semi finals, narrowly beaten by one goal.

A supper of turkey and ham with salad accompaniments followed by a delicious array of sweets was enjoyed by all.

Kelly Kerr presented Mrs Carlisle with a flower arrangement in appreciation of her musical services during the year.

Zoey presented Shannon with a book about Ireland from P7.

On behalf of the choir Melanie presented Barbara Morrison with a copy of “Junior Mission Praise.”

Nelson presented Mr. Morrison with a Tyrone cut glass Dalriada vase.
